Systematic has successfully completed its second verified carbon footprint assessment, reinforcing its dedication to achieving Verified Carbon Neutral status in 2025. They are also celebrating their 50th trading anniversary in 2025.
In 2023, this leading design, print, mailing, and marketing services firm partnered with carbon consultancy Auditel to advance its sustainability goals. This collaboration reflects the company’s commitment to managing, measuring, and transparently reporting its carbon footprint, with a long-term objective of achieving Net Zero emissions.
This is their second verified carbon footprint, demonstrating a 45% reduction from the first. By identifying their carbon hotspots, they have been able to target these areas and achieve the necessary reductions. They proudly display their carbon footprint in the reception area, reflecting their immense commitment and pride in their overall sustainability achievements.
They have already made significant strides in carbon reduction, including:
- Removing all fossil fuel heating from their buildings
- Fitting more efficient radiant heating panels
- Upgrading the building’s fabric with double-glazed windows and improved underfloor insulation
- They have replaced vehicles with new energy efficient electric vehicles
- Extending LED lighting and installing movement sensors
- Their popular range of promotional products leads with lower impact products that are thoughtfully sourced and produced
- Addressing carbon in part of their transportation with a review of their courier partnership
Julie Adams, Carbon Auditor at Auditel states, ‘Systematic are working on a formal science-based targets reduction plan to hit net zero commitments, and we have completed a workshop already to move forward in formalising this. Some other exciting projects are now in planning, including continued energy saving projects and technology implantation, further supply chain improvements and improvement in business travel options.”
Over the years, Systematic has focused on minimising, managing, and measuring their carbon footprint, laying the groundwork for this goal. Now, Systematic aims to be one of the first businesses in the UK to be audited against an international standard for carbon neutrality.
Systematic is taking its sustainability mindset beyond the way it operates. The team recognise their ability to improve the sustainability of their client’s purchasing, by introducing them to lower impact products, approaches and production techniques across mailings, labels, sustainable corporate gifts and printed items. They are members of Two Sides, giving their clients access to resources and logos that reinforce the sustainability of print. This helps their clients to avoid greenwashing claims, whilst harnessing the power of this tactile means of communication, which is saved, shared and cuts through lots of digital messages.
Jacqui Vear, Operations Director for Systematic added, “For the added peace of mind of our clients, the way we work is accredited to international quality and environmental standards ISO 9001 and 14001 and aligned with The Good Business Charter, demonstrating our commitment to people and the planet.”
Ben Crossfield, Commercial Director, continues, “These are exciting times for Systematic and our design agency, oodle. At the heart of everything we do is a drive to make a meaningful, positive impact on all our stakeholders and the wider community. We are incredibly proud that this includes managing, minimising and offsetting our carbon footprint within the context of the climate emergency.”
