Sian Formwork are delighted to announce that they have started their carbon journey with their new carbon partner, Auditel, with the strategic objective of reaching net zero. Climate is the greatest challenge of our time.

As a responsible business we aim to achieve a track record of driving our carbon from the built environment and are committed to working collaboratively with clients, peers and our supply chain to realise a net zero carbon future. Only by working together can we achieve the required carbon emissions reductions to meet the net zero carbon goals of our UK government, industry and globally.

Our portfolio spans over 12 years, we have worked successfully on many prestigious projects for well-established main contractors within the civil engineering sector. At Sian Formwork we have a proven record of working in high profile schemes for organisations such as Network Rail, Highways England, Crossrail, Docklands Light Railway and Transport for London.

The Sian Group of companies incorporates CCS Scaffolding Ltd, A.S.K Diamond Drilling LTD and ZCS Training Ltd – giving us the ability to successfully plan, manage and execute structural engineering works as a whole package. With safety, quality, and sustainability at the core of our business values, Sian Formwork can offer the complete structures solution for your project. We are determined in reducing carbon emissions to be at the heart of our organisation sustainability strategy. We are committed to halving the impact of operations in our direct control by 2025 and achieving net zero emissions in our scope 1, 2 and 3 by 2040.

Kevin Knapp Operations Manager, comments, “Our aim is to put in place a matrix and robust carbon measurement and reporting system which will help us demonstrate substantial reductions year on year. Delivering low carbon solutions not only helps us reduce our clients carbon footprint, it generates cost benefits for them and our business and to achieve our objectives against our sustainability strategy. It will also help us meet government and legal requirements such as Energy savings and Opportunities Scheme (ESOS), the Energy Efficient Directive (EED), Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) and the drive globally to become net zero by 2050.

“By working with a market leader like Auditel and supply chain partners we are examining every element of our projects to find lower carbon options and solutions integrating carbon into our decision making and making it a priority alongside cost, quality, time, and safety.”

Considering all the elements that go into creating the infrastructure we deliver from the materials used, the logistics of transporting people, plant and products to and from the site and all activities that take place on site during construction up until handover acknowledging that there are some areas outside our control where we have limited influence.

One of our important clients is HS2 so we would like to combine forces with some of the other clients to move this project forward as well. It is essential that we can show with absolute confidence that our carbon footprint is and what we are doing to reduce it. The work and supporting evidence Auditel will produce enable us to achieve this. We are in the early stages in our journey and at present we are working with the Auditel experts to assist in gathering our data from our suppliers and waste management company. Auditel will then combine all this information to put together our carbon reduction plan to assist in marketing our company to future clients knowing that our data and plans are accurate.

Jon Alford, Auditel Carbon Auditor comments, “Sian Formwork have a wealth of experience in high profile, heavy civils construction projects, including HS2, and are acutely aware of the strain and impact their industry brings to the planet. Clearly commercial success is very important to them and achieving PPN 06/21 is critical for them to both maintain and grow the business. However, they are not just interested in short term commercial success and are keen to be part of the solution in helping ensure our future generations has the same opportunities as previous ones. They are very active with supporting their community and believe that acting positively on sustainability and reducing their carbon emissions is the right way to go for both the local and wider community. We will focus our efforts on building in a clever and efficient way. We will also identify and share the gaps and challenges in achieving zero carbon construction.

It has been an absolute pleasure working with the whole Sian Formwork team in what is quite a complex operation model. We look forward to getting emissions mapped and a meaningful reduction plan put in place.
