Our Vision:

Andy Sivyer, Head of Estates & Sustainability comments, “In our journey to achieving Net Zero by 2050, Shooting Star Children’s Hospices is aiming to reduce our carbon footprint by up to 85% by 2030. To achieve this massive step forward in sustainability, we have been working closely with Auditel who have assisted us in the way forward. Their up-to-date knowledge and assistance have been invaluable in producing our carbon reduction plan.

Caring for the children and families we support is at the heart of everything we do, but we know that we can only continue to provide care long into the future by also caring for our planet. As an organisation we’re dedicated to minimising our carbon footprint and ensure future generations inherit a planet that thrives with health and sustainability.

Decarbonisation Projects

So far on our journey we have installed solar panels and EV charging points at Christopher’s, our Guildford hospice.  We separate waste at source; introduced a paper cut system of printing and photocopying; reduced temperature settings on heating systems and have a systematic installation of LED lighting as and when they are needed to be replaced – but there is still so much more to do.

Going forward we are planning more solar panels and EV Charging points, replacing old vehicle fleet with EV or Hybrid vehicles and boiler replacements to help on our reduction in reliance on gas supplies.

There is so much more that can be done, and we are committed to doing everything we can to reduce our footprint. Shooting Star Children’s Hospices are blessed in the fact that our staff and management are all behind our journey. We only have one planet and it’s all our responsibility to save it for future generations.”
