Roythornes Solicitors is delighted to have made significant progress on their journey to Net Zero with their Carbon Partner Auditel.

Roythornes is a top 150 law firm with five offices across the east and midlands regions. With a heritage on working for farmers and landowners they have always had a close relationship with those who work to protect the environment. Ann Barrasso, Operations Director comments, “We aim to be a positive force for environmental change within the legal industry, advocating green values and adopting sustainable business practices.

With the help of Julie Adams from AuditeI our sustainable journey is one in which all our people are involved, from the Management Board to every member of our talented team.  We also involve all our five offices and each and every team in the interventions we take.  We are one Roythornes. We had reached the stage where we had done a lot of work, but to continue our journey we needed to tighten up on our measurement.  We felt we could not set goals without knowing where we stood.

We commissioned Auditel to help calculate our current footprint and their report is proving to be invaluable in planning the next steps on our sustainable journey. By highlighting our major contributors to our carbon output, the report gives us a real focus for our efforts.  It enables us to tackle the ‘low hanging fruit’ by working on reduction programmes where it will have the most impact. We are now working on our programme for the next year and beyond, and the assistance given by Auditel and their reporting  will help us define more realistic and measurable targets.

The help we have been given so far has been great and we’re looking forward to working together more on our carbon reduction journey. We are in this for the long run, and are committed to reducing our impact on the planet. We’re lucky in that we have complete buy-in to the project from the Directors to every member of staff.  It creates a good feeling around the firm and encourages innovative suggestions for new interventions from all teams across the firm.”

“We have complete buy-in to the project from the Directors to every member of staff.  It creates a great feeling around the firm and encourages innovative suggestions to decarbonise”

As a firm founded in 1934 advising landowners and farmers Roythornes Solicitors have always had a close affinity with the natural environment and those who are concerned about sustainability.

This is something unique in a law firm, and a characteristic they are determined not to lose. Ann Barrasso, Operations Director comments, “ As the pressure on the environment increases, so do our efforts and the level of our interventions – some of which require a considerable capital investment by the business. But with Auditels help we have the commitment and aim to become Carbon Neutral by 2040 or sooner.”
