Kilworth House Hotel & Theatre has joined forces with Auditel to deliver their objective of becoming Carbon Neutral while on their longer-term goal of reaching Net Zero.

Auditels biomass expert Mark Appleton helped them review their wood pellet purchasing using his industry knowledge and background resulting in a saving of 32%*/annum. This not only gives them a cash saving but also multi-year price stability in a very volatile market.

Elizabeth Payne, General Manager comments “Kilworth House Hotel and Theatre is a privately owned business with an AA 4 Red Star award acknowledging that we are fully committed to operating with high standards of service throughout.

As our business has evolved since opening in 2003, so has our commitment to ethical and environmental practices. We initially achieved a Silver Green Tourism Award but, in recent years we have invested heavily into specific projects such as recycling, lighting and the installation of a Biomass boiler. The biomass boiler has worked really well and we’ve been very pleased with it. However, we were shocked by the increases in prices of wood pellet over the last eighteen months and this looked set to continue”.

Mark Appleton is Auditels Biomass lead and comments “The impact on energy supply from the war in Ukraine has really increased energy prices of all types and higher prices are here to stay. Wood pellet supply has also been affected for similar reasons, but the supply chains are different and understanding these properly is key to getting the best combination of price and contract term for our clients.”

Elizabeth Payne adds “We are working hard to reduce our carbon and being able to reduce our costs at the same time is a real bonus that we weren’t expecting. The Auditel team used their specialist expertise and market knowledge to give us price reduction as well as price stability that we just didn’t think was possible”.

“Heating our hotel so our guests are comfortable is critical to our business and we now go into the next winter knowing that we will not be exposed to the huge price spikes we’ve seen recently for wood pellets. This is a huge relief and allows us to focus on our customers rather than worrying about these costs.”

Julie Adams who leads the carbon project for Auditel at Kilworth House Hotel adds “We are delighted to be working with Kilworth House Hotel & Theatre, a genuine champion of sustainability in the hotel and theatre sector. We love their ambition and commitment to minimise the impact they have on the environment and being able to make such good savings for them as well as helping them reduce their carbon emissions is a core offer from Auditel which I’m delighted we were able to deliver to them”.
