About David Wilshin

Carbon & Procurement Specialist

30 years’ experience in the automotive sector working in finance, leasing, insurance and automotive services such as windscreen replacement and body repair. David has spent much of his career negotiating supplier contracts and leading teams to deliver exceptional service. He has worked in sales and project management roles for international organisations, including the AA and Belron (Autoglass in the UK).

With a passion for environment and sustainability, David has led tender negotiations with large PLC clients from the UK fleet and insurance sectors. He has worked with blue chip clients such as British Telecom, Allianz Insurance & Toyota, helping them reduce the carbon footprint created by their replacement glass and body repair processes. These carbon reduction initiatives have been delivered without impacting service levels and implemented with neutral and sometimes positive impact on  pricing.

David lives on the south coast, halfway between Portsmouth & Southampton, with his wife Nikki and Shih Tzu Charlie. At the weekends he spends his time with family and in particular entertaining the grandkids. When David does get a few free hours to himself he heads off to the golf course.

  • As Head of Business Development at leading insurtech, Tempcover, David led development of a software project which moved a short-term insurance solution from paper to 100% online. This project resulted in a significantly reduced transaction time for both customer and car retailer, a reduction in the insurance premium cost, plus a saving of over 350,000 sheets of paper annually.
  • While at the AA, David worked with Toyota and Lexus to provide a ‘just in time’ automotive glass supply service for their customers. The results were Toyota and Lexus part sales increased by 800%, customer satisfaction indexes improved, and material wastage reduced.
  • During his time at Belron, David negotiated a 3-year supplier contract with British Telecom global procurement. The contract and processes David put in place delivered a quicker, ‘right first time’ service and a significant improvement in BT engineers’ satisfaction index, all without impacting the price.
  • In the car finance and leasing space, David created a 100% online sales and vehicle order process and moved all associated paperwork from hard copy to online storage. Consequently, the broker network saved time previously spent on administration and reduced their paper spend by 85%.
