Ikon Gallery, in the heart of Birmingham, have benefited from monthly energy analysis reporting and annual contract negotiations provided by Alan Ford at Auditel.
This has been verified independently by University Cambridge as part of their Tate Gallery’s ‘Plus Tate’ partnership. As Matt Hogan, Gallery Facilities Manager explains, “The effectiveness of Auditel was demonstrated in 2011 when University Cambridge surveyed twenty UK art gallery institutions in order to ascertain where cost savings could be gained… our costs could not be bettered thanks to Alan.”
In addition to these cost benefits, I am proud to be involved in such a forward thinking organisation by helping form the Energy Strategy and supporting the Gallery’s Energy Efficiency Action Plan.
Testament to the saying “if you can’t measure it, you can’t manage it”, smart meters have been installed and it is the diligent detailed analysis of this data which drives decisions regarding the day to day workings of the gallery. A strong environmental responsibility is paramount for the Gallery as more and more funding bodies require energy consumption data with a roadmap to reduce this wherever practical.
