Sustainability has been central to Carbon Neutral Vending since its inception. Achieving carbon neutral certification for the fifth consecutive year highlights the company’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
Achieving Carbon Neutrality
When the company first embarked on its carbon reduction journey, the scale of the ongoing commitment required to maintain certification year after year was not fully anticipated.
Five certifications later, sustainability has become embedded in the organisation’s culture and day-to-day operations. Rather than being viewed as an annual assessment exercise, environmental considerations now play a key role in everyday business decisions
The team has also been able to see the tangible impact of the changes implemented over time, making the achievement even more meaningful. This growing awareness of the positive difference their efforts have made has helped reinforce a shared commitment to the company’s sustainability goals.
Building on Five Years of Carbon Neutrality
As Carbon Neutral Vending has progressed through the certification process, carbon management has become increasingly embedded in the business. Initially focused on understanding its carbon footprint and key areas of impact, the company has since shifted its attention to implementing practical actions that deliver meaningful reductions.
Today, sustainability is considered across many aspects of the business, including vehicles, travel, vending machines, waste management, purchasing, and customer partnerships. The company has also learned that meaningful progress often comes from a series of smaller improvements, which collectively deliver significant long-term results.
Auditel’s Support on the Journey to Carbon Neutrality
Kat Bond, Director at Carbon Neutral Vending, comments, “Auditel have been a really important part of our journey, and I have to give a special mention to Richard, our carbon consultant.”
“Richard is a real asset to Auditel and we genuinely enjoy working with him. He knows our business really well, so he understands what we’ve achieved and where we still have work to do.
He is incredibly organised and has all of our information and evidence documented, which makes such a difference when it comes to the certification process. He also presents the business extremely well when dealing with BSI during the accreditation process, which gives us a lot of confidence.”
The Benefits of Maintaining ISO 14068 Certification
One of the key benefits of maintaining ISO 14068 certification is the confidence it provides to customers and stakeholders that Carbon Neutral Vending’s sustainability commitments are independently verified. In an environment where many businesses are making environmental claims, certification offers clear and tangible evidence of the company’s actions. This is particularly valuable when working with larger organisations that have their own sustainability targets and expectations for their supply chain partners.
The Key to Five Consecutive Certifications
Kat Bond, continues, “I think the biggest thing is that it genuinely matters to us. If we were doing it just to have a certificate on the wall, I don’t think we would have got to five years.
The other important thing is having the right people around us. Having Richard and Auditel supporting us, along with a team who are willing to embrace the changes, has made a huge difference.”
Future Sustainability Goals
Looking ahead, Carbon Neutral Vending aims to continue reducing its carbon footprint by focusing on the areas where it can make the greatest impact. The company has already implemented significant changes, particularly across its vehicle fleet, but remains committed to identifying further opportunities for improvement.
They also plan to continue working closely with customers to support more sustainable choices through its vending solutions. As the business grows, the focus will be on balancing continued sustainability progress with long-term commercial development.
Future Carbon Reduction Initiatives
Carbon Neutral Vending is continuously exploring new ways to reduce its environmental impact and improve sustainability across the business.
Current areas of research include upgrading its EV charging infrastructure with a rapid or express charger to support its growing electric vehicle fleet more efficiently, as well as assessing the potential for solar panel installation at its premises.
The company is also proud of its reusable cup programme, which has helped eliminate more than two million single-use vending cups to date. While there are several exciting opportunities under consideration, each project is being carefully evaluated to ensure it delivers meaningful environmental benefits while remaining commercially viable and supporting the company’s continued growth.
Reflecting on Five Years of Carbon Neutral Certification
Achieving ISO 14068 certification for the fifth consecutive year reflects Carbon Neutral Vending’s long-term commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement.
The milestone demonstrates that sustainability is embedded in the business, with a consistent focus on measuring performance, reducing environmental impact, and driving positive change year after year.
Built on the belief that vending can be done differently, Carbon Neutral Vending remains committed to improving sustainability and driving positive change across the industry. The company also values the support of Auditel, particularly Richard, whose expertise has helped guide its carbon neutrality journey. While proud of this achievement, Carbon Neutral Vending sees it as another step in its ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
Richard Smith, Carbon Measurement and Reduction Specialist at Auditel, comments, “I’m delighted that Carbon Neutral Vending has achieved carbon neutral status for the fifth consecutive year, independently verified by BSI against ISO 14068. Maintaining this commitment year after year is a significant achievement and demonstrates that carbon reduction is firmly embedded in the way the business operates. It has been a real pleasure to work with the team and to see their continued commitment to measuring, reducing and taking responsibility for their carbon emissions.”
